Learning mathematics is a continuous process of building up skills and understanding, and it requires systematic practice. Below, we break down four key areas—daily practice, weekly revision, covering the syllabus, and practicing past papers—to explain how students can achieve the best results at each stage of learning.

1. Daily Practice:

Spend at least 30 to 60 minutes each day on mathematics practice. The duration can be adjusted according to your schedule, but consistency and continuity are essential. Choose the time of day when you are most mentally alert, such as early morning or after dinner, and avoid studying when you are tired.

Practice should cover a range of topics rather than focusing on just one area. When you begin, start with simpler questions to become familiar with fundamental concepts and methods, then gradually increase the proportion of more challenging problems to push your logical reasoning and ability to apply knowledge comprehensively.

Students are encouraged to keep a practice log, recording the number of questions completed each day, the topics covered, and the types of mistakes made. Spend 5 to 10 minutes reviewing incorrect answers and analyzing the reasons behind the errors to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

2. Weekly Review:

Schedule one to two review sessions each week, lasting about one to two hours each, preferably on weekends or during periods of lighter academic workload. Focus on reviewing the material covered during the week to ensure a clear understanding of each topic. Organize an error notebook or list of incorrect questions, redo those problems, and reflect on the reasons for the mistakes. Revisit key points from your notes and textbooks, especially formulas or concepts that are easy to forget. Select one or two topics for targeted practice to address weaknesses identified during regular exercises.

3. Covering the Entire Syllabus:

The IGCSE Mathematics syllabus is broad and diverse. Students can divide the syllabus into several main sections and then further break them down into smaller units. Allocate study time according to the importance and difficulty of each topic—for example, algebra and geometry usually carry greater weight and therefore require more time.

Students should adjust their study plan according to their own progress and level of understanding, allocating more time to weaker areas. In particular, topics such as statistics and probability, which may seem simple but are often overlooked, should be fully covered before the exam.

Students should also avoid spending long periods focusing on a single topic. Alternating between different topics can improve study efficiency and deepen overall understanding.
